The university campus is located at 1469 Ggaba Road, in Nsambya, a southern neighborhood of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country. Nsambya is located approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi), by road, southeast of the central business district of Kampala.[1] The coordinates of the university campus are:0°18’04.0″N, 32°35’36.0″E (Latitude:0.301111; Longitude:32.593333).

HISTORY

The university opened with 45 students in the premises formerly occupied by Makerere High Scchool, on Makerere Hill. The student body grew to over 250 in 2009.[5][6] In 2010, CUU moved to its current, brand new campus on Ggaba Road, opposite the Embassy of the United States of America to Uganda.

The university started operating in 2008. At the opening ceremony, the former Zambian President, Kenneth Kaunda, who is the Chancellor of the university, was among the dignitaries present. Cavendish University Uganda is affiliated with Cavendish College London, Cavendish University Tanzania and Cavendish University Zambia.

CUU held its first graduation ceremony in November 2011. During the university’s second graduation ceremony, 360 students graduated, of whom 166 (46%) were female and 137 (38%) were non-Ugandan.

The Government of Uganda, has donated 15 acres (6.1 ha), in Entebbe, where CUU is building a larger, permanent main campus. The Kampala campus is expected to be retained, even when the Entebbe campus is opened.
