Chapter Summary

In this chapter, you have learnt :

That measurement is a process of detecting an unknown physical quantity by using standard quantity.

That measurements can never be exact; there is always some uncertainty. That the most common system of units in the world is the SI system.

That when converting units, check dimensions to see that the conversion has been done properly.

That the order-of-magnitude estimates can be very helpful.

That the three fundamental physical quantities of mechanics are length, mass and time, which in the SI system have the unit’s metres (m), kilograms (kg) and seconds (s), respectively.

That the prefixes indicating various powers of ten are used with these three basic units.

That the density of a substance is defined as its mass per unit volume. The scientific method of study.
