Chapter Summary

In this chapter, you have learnt that:

A force is either a push or a pull.

Forces cause a change in the state of rest or motion of a body.

The unit of force is a newton (N). Forces are vector quantities; they have both magnitude and direction.

There are two types of forces: contact and non-contact forces.

There exists gravitational force that interacts with all objects.

The weight of a body depends on its location.

Friction exists in all aspects of motion on earth.

Friction can be reduced. Friction is both useful and wasteful in various situations.

Surface tension is useful for supporting life on earth.

Natural application of adhesion and cohesion supports the lives of both animals and plants on earth.

Capillary effects are due to both adhesion and cohesion.
