Prose – Sample activity of integration

Imagine that a recent survey has found that very few young people read any books, other than school textbooks. There is concern that this may have a negative effect academic achievement in schools. As a result, schools are conducting a campaign to encourage learners to read. Your school has asked learners to write book reviews of books they have read and enjoyed. They would like these reviews to be presented in different formats, to reach as many learners as possible.
You have decided to write reviews of the book ‘Far from home’. Using the information in this chapter, and what you learnt about different aspects of the text, write the following: .

a short SMS or WhatsApp message to a friend, telling them about the book and why they should read it
the ‘blurb’ for the back of the book cover, giving a little information about the story and explaining why the book is enjoyable a letter to a friend, telling them about the book and why they should read it
a formal review for your school magazine. Use the template you created for book reviews. Remember to share your own experience of reading the extracts, and give your own opinion of the text.
