Sample activity of integration – Appearance and grooming

In our country there is an ongoing debate about women’s rights and how women dress. A few years ago, the government introduced new rules about the appearance of anyone working in the public sector. While the police, military forces, nurses and firefighters wear uniforms, other workers, such as teachers and office workers, are free to dress as they please. Or are they?

These are some of the new rules for women.

Women:

• must have natural hair colour – no bright colours
• may not paint their nails with bright colours
• must wear a dress that is below the knee .
• may not wear sleeveless tops or dresses
• may not wear transparent or brightly coloured dresses or tops.

• 3. Imagine that you own a large company. Write an official dress code for the company. You want the staff to look smart but you also want them to be happy and comfortable. Use descriptive language and include appropriate adjectives and adjectival phrases, compound words and comparatives. Be tactful!.
