Fish: Lake Victoria is a major fresh water source of River Nile. Its water receives a lot of agrochemicals that drain from the surrounding plantations of tea, sugarcane, maize, banana and coffee. Some of the chemicals boost the growth of algae and ferns. These plants sometimes get spread over a large area. Recently a mat of water hyacinth was seen growing on the shorelines of the lake at a terrific speed. The neighbouring communities and island inhabitants were caught by surprise as the fish catch diminished. The hyacinth also trapped fish that made it an available prey for the African eagle.
Design an instructional kit to educate farmers on alternative fish production strategies as the government handles the water hyacinth problem.
