Sample Activity of Integration LSC S1:Temperature and Thermometers

You have been asked to give a talk to the primary seven class near your school. The talk is about the importance of thermometers to man. The primary seven class already knows that mercury, alcohol and water are used in thermometers but they do not know how to demonstrate the construction and use of clinical thermometer.

In not more than 100 words, write down an article on how you would explain this in your talk using your knowledge of temperature and thermometers.

In this chapter, you have learnt that: The temperature of a body doesn’t necessarily define its thermal energy. A thermometer is a device used to measure the temperature of a body. Temperature scales such as the Kelvin and Celsius scale facilitate the measurement of temperature. Thermometric properties define the type of a thermometer. Temperature values obtained from the Celsius scale are related to those of
the Kelvin scale by the equation: T = t + 273.16.
The earth’s atmosphere is divided up into four layers which include the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and the thermosphere. The temperature ofthe earth’s atmosphere varies mth alåtude from the earth,s surface.
