Sample Activity of Integration on Trends in the Periodic Table

Health agencies have reported about how life expectancies, especially in developing countries, have lowered over time. It is known that some materials, like plastics, used in handling, holding and storage of
food disintegrate into food to a certain extent. Reports show that continuous use of such materials exposes the human body to cancer risks and other diseases.

As a Chemistry learner, report to a village health team (VHT) about the materials which are suitable for use in the food industry.
In your report:
a) include information on the elements used to make food containers and other food-packaging
materials.
b) with reference to Group I and Group II elements, explain why some elements are not used in
the food industry (for example, not in the manufacture of food-shortage materials)
