Sample activity of integration onLSC S1:Prose: appreciation


A classmate has just returned to school after being hospitalised for a few weeks. She needs to catch up on school work. She will be supported by a few classmates. You have been selected to support her to write a book review. Your teacher has suggested that the best way to do this is for you to write a review and then use it to explain the different parts of the review and how to write them.

  1. Select one of the books you have read in class or one you have read for leisure.
  2. Write about the book providing a summary of:
    the setting
    the plot
    the main characters
    the author’s message.

Summary of key concepts
In this chapter, you have learnt to:
1. Revise and used key terminology.
2.Share reading experiences with a partner and a group.
3. Tell each other why you have chosen a particular book to read and justify your choice with reasons.
4.Discuss the setting and main plot of a story and summarise a story.
5.Explain what made the main character in the book you have chosen interesting, referring to dialogue and actions.
6.Complete a template and write a short review of the book you have read.

7.Present your response to a book in different writing formats.
