Sample activity of integration – Parents and Children

In the home, parent-children relationships may vary from one family to another. An adult may react depending on the circumstance. For example, if he or she is worried about something, such as too little income, having to pay school fees or a disobedient child, the adult is inclined to be short-tempered and to pay less attention to the child’s problems than the child expects. On the other hand, when the child is unhappy about something, he or she can react rudely or aggressively to the parent or guardian, which makes the situation worse. A family is a very close- knit community, and each member of the family’s problems affect everyone else.

1. What is the best way to deal with a situation when your mother or caregiver is angry about something, and impatient with you? Write two or three sentences. Chapter 3: Parents and children
2. You have been in trouble at school and when you get home you avoid the family and react rudely when you are asked to do something. What do you expect from your family members in such a situation? Write two sentences.
3. If you have been rude to your mother or caregiver, and impatient with your siblings, how would you set things right between you again? How would you apologise?
4. You are feeling very unhappy and worried about your good friend at school, who has suddenly started behaving strangely towards you. He or she is unfriendly and ignores you or walks away when you try to communicate. You have no idea why your friend will not speak to you. You really want to ask your parents for advice but they are worrying about your sick grandmother and have not noticed that you need their assistance. How do you get your parents to listen and help you? How do you do this without causing more conflict?
