Discussing and writing a summary
1 In groups, mention the values which the pillars of Islam have promoted in your society.

From the passages you have read, you have now understood that values are expected moral behaviours of people in society. Pillars of Islam promote many values including monotheism, punctuality, being prayerful, obedience, and cleanliness. They also promote the value of faith, charity, love, concern, empathy, cooperation, selflessness, patience, discipline and self—control. Love, sincerity, faithfulness, hope and equality, unity, solidarity, devotion and many others.

The above and other good values have improved character and behaviours of people in the society.
The six Articles of Faith in Islam You have learnt about the pillars of Islam. You have also discovered the benefits and the good values and practices in the pillars of Islam. You are now going to discover that apart from the pillars of faith, Islam has the articles of faith. They are six articles.
You will work through Activity 3.30 to understand them more.

From Figure 3.9, you have discovered that the Articles of Faith are important beliefs in the Islamic faith. They include; Belief in Allah, belief in Angels, belief in His holy books, belief in His messengers, belief in the day of judgement, and belief in the divine Decree.
The articles of Islam help Muslims to know what they believe in. It helps them also to live a life Allah expects them to live. It guides them to know the truth about Islam. The articles of faith
also help to shape the Muslims’ way of life.
They help them to know that it is important to respect Allah, as the only God and also to respect His messages, the Holy books, His prophets, Angels and know other teachings. Articles of faith help them to know what to believe in and also explain how to implement them.
