There is a lodge on the road between Masinda and Hoima, close to Lake Albert. It is on the road from Kampala to the Murchison Falls, and attracts many of the tourists who use that route. My grandparents started the lodge as a small guesthouse in the 1960s. Over time, it has grown into a busy lodge with accommodation for eight families. It is still run by our family and until recently, we were always fully booked and busy, busy, busy.
Tourism was one of the sectors most badly affected by the onset of Covid-19 in 2020. Within a month, our visitors disappeared. Tourists hurried home, international flights were cancelled and soon borders of countries all over the world were closed. We had nobody to accommodate and no work. After a few months we despaired about how our business would survive. We were not prepared to lose what we had built up over many years.
Write an essay giving advice on how the lodge can survive the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic
