SUBMATH: Newton’s Laws of Motion Assignment

  1. An object with mass 10kg accelerates at a rate of 2 m/s/s. What is the force acting on the object?
  2. If a body of mass 80kg is acted on by a resultant force of 5N, what is the object’s acceleration?
  3. What is the force required to give an object of mass 100g an acceleration of 5m/s/s?
  4. According to Newton’s First Law, force is mass times acceleration, i.e. 10\times 2=20. The force is 20N.
  5. F=ma where F is a resultant force of 5N and m is a mass of 80kg. This means acceleration is 5/80=1/16 m/s/s. (This body’s velocity will increase by one sixteenth of a metre per second every second all things remaining constant.)
  6. We must first change the mass into kilograms: 100g = 0.1kg. Force is mass times acceleration and so the force required is  Newtons.
