The Constitutional Review of 1995 recommended a fedelist system in Uganda, but the Constituent Assembly did not grant it to Ugandans. Whereas other kingdoms kept silent, Buganda continued to demand federal status. Chapter Summary

In this chapter, you have learnt that the struggle for national independence in East Africa was a long process. It was influenced by the effects of World War II. The East Africans involved in pro-independence movements applied pressure on the colonial powers using various means and platforms to force them to grant independence. The pressure came from political parties, mass demonstrations and riots. The colonial government found it increasingly difficult to deal with protests and riots. It, therefore, became difficult for Britain to refuse or block demands for independence.
