Topic 5: Geometric Construction Skills – Sample Activity

Juma wants to construct a perimeter wall around his plot of land. The plot of land is semi-circular at one end and has a right-angled triangle shape at the other end. The middle part of the land is rectangular.

Geometric

A Geometry set, pen, pencil, paper.

Task: Juma asks you to accurately construct the foundation plan for his perimeter wall. Explain how you have accurately constructed the perimeter wall plan. Discuss whether there are other ways of drawing an accurate plan.

Remember

Lines that never intersect are parallel lines.

The lines that intersect at 90° are perpendicular lines

An angle bisector divides an angle into two equal angles.

Topic Summary

In this topic, you have learnt how to:

  1. draw and construct perpendicular and parallel lines, angle bisectors and mediators
  2. constrict special angles (60°, 45°)
  3. describe a locus
  4. draw polygons and how to measure lengths and angles
  5. construct different geometrical figures such as a triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram and a regular hexagon
