Conjunctions are joining words e.g “and” and “but”

“And” is used to join two words or sentences of different sense.

“But” is used to join two sentences to make one big sentence of the same sense e.g A fork and a knife.

John is standing. Jane is standing.  – John and Jane are standing.

He bought a book. He bought a pencil. – He bought a book and a pencil.

Mary paid for cakes. Mary paid for bread. – Mary paid for cakes and bread.
