INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
This paper consists of two sections; A and B. It has four examination items. Answer one item from each section.
Answer two examination items in all.
Any additional item answered will not be scored.
All answers must be written in the answer booklet(s) provided.
SECTION A: Art History Either
Item 1
On a fact-finding mission about art, a man visited different art centres in Uganda. The man’s intention was to setup an art and design library that will store information about art in Uganda. Below is a picture of one the artwork he saw at one of the art centres he visited.

Although the man had got some information about other areas of his concern, he has failed to identify a knowledgeable person with information about the types of artworks practiced in Uganda and the contribution of art and design as a sector to the national development of the country.
Task
As an art and design student, make a writeup which the man can use to fill up his information gap.

Item 2
Tom is a gifted self-taught constructor who is regularly hired by several people in his area to construct buildings. Recently, he was given a job to renovate a kids play Centre and specifically, Tom was instructed by his client to use the approaches of construction as those used by the Romans of long ago. One of the sample pictures that Tom was given to enable him do his work well is this one below.

Although Tom accepted the job, he is challenged by the lack of knowledge about the features of the Roman buildings that he can use to renovate the kids play Centre.
Task:
Formulate a suitable write up which will enlighten Tom about what he does not know in regards his clients’ requirements.

Section B (Studio Technology) Either
While watching News on a television set (TV) a News anchor (news reader) reported about the government’s program of skilling citizens. Many products were shown that were made by the people that had gone through the training. Some of the products that were shown are these below.

After the News, a child asked his parent about how such products are made and for which purpose they serve. But the parent had no convincing response to the child.
Task:
If the child asked you, what would be your response in regards to either Fig C or Fig D?

Unemployment has of late become a global challenge. It has resulted into theft and insecurity that threatens peace. In a bid to fight this challenge, an organization has prioritized training unemployed people with vocational skills that will equip people with the knowledge of making income generating products. Some of the products that the organization has researched about and wishes to train are these below.

Task:
As a knowledgeable person in art and design, make a suitable document that explains what is required and how any one of the two artworks above are made.
