AFRICA BIBLE UNIVERSITY PROFILE

AFRICA BIBLE UNIVERSITY

ABU

BACKGROUND

This unique educational institution is not new to Africa. The original vision for the college began in the hearts and minds of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Chinchen. After spending seven years training pastors in the interior of Liberia, the Chinchens realized the great need for colleges that would respond to the need of the increasing number of secondary school graduates in Africa. In 1975 the vision became reality when the first of the African Bible Colleges began in Liberia, West Africa. A second college opened in 1991 in the Central African country of Malawi.

In due time, both of these colleges were recognized by the governments of their respective countries as accredited, university-level, degree-granting institutions.

Now the way has opened for the third of these Christ-committed colleges in the strategically located East African country of Uganda. From this vantage point, ABU Uganda offers quality education from a Christian perspective to the surrounding countries of Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia.

The campus of African Bible University in Uganda is on Lubowa Hill, approximately 12 kilometres (7.5 mi), by road, south of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. The location is about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) east of the KampalaEntebbe Road.

ACADEMICS

Degrees

African Bible University’s four-year program is designed to award its graduates a Bachelor of Arts degree in either Biblical Studies or Christian Community Leadership. Students may minor in Communications, Education, or Business.

Africa Bible University has been granted a provisional license to operate as a university in Uganda by the National Council for Higher Education.

Core Curriculum

Unique to African Bible University is a program of study that combines the opportunity to pursue Biblical studies on the university level, while also enabling the student to take a concentration of studies in a second area of interest. Courses in various sections of Scripture, books of the Bible, principles of Biblical interpretation, and the overarching theology of the Bible fully equip the student for a variety of Christian ministries such as pastor, teacher, elder, evangelist, and missionary. At the same time, courses are taken across a broad range of subjects, including world history, church history, English and African literature, composition and grammar, speech and communications, typing and computers, cultural anthropology, Christian ethics, business ethics, and physical education.

A carefully selected 12,000 volume library, and computer and internet facilities are available to all students and teachers on campus.

The election of additional courses in the field of education will provide the student with thorough training for teaching in a variety of schools. As an alternative, a student may choose to concentrate on courses in communication in conjunction with our on-campus FM radio station. Other areas of subsidiary concentration currently being considered are business and Bible translation.

Standard Curriculum Chart

When the prospective student becomes aware of the breadth of instruction in this program and the potential for a variety of services after graduation, he can appreciate the fact that four years of study are required to complete the course. A further advantage of the curriculum design is to open the door for the possibility of further study. Graduates of the university have been accepted into over twenty graduate schools in Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
