HISTORY
Located in Kabale Municipality, a town close to the borders of Rwanda, DRC, Burundi, and Tanzania, Kabale University attracts students from all these countries and enjoys a rich cultural diversity in its enrollment, currently over 4,000. The university was founded in 2001 by local authorities and a variety of stakeholders to meet the needs of a region hitherto under- served interms of college and university education. International students are given priority in the university’s facilities and asisisted to find suitable private housing.
The major objective of the university is to contribute to the socioeconomic development of Kigezi, Uganda, East Africa, Eastern Africa and Africa, through accessible training, research and decentralized service delivery, using participatory and inclusive approaches and methodologies.
LOCATION.
The main campus of Kabale University is located on Kikungiri Hill, in Kabale Municipality, on 52 hectares (130 acres) of land donated by Kabale District Administration. The location is 1 kilometre (0.62Â mi), off the Kabale–Gatuna Road, approximately 420 kilometres (260Â mi), by road, southwest of Kampala, Uganda’s capital and largest city.
